Borg Cube Cake

Today I made a Borg Cube Cake from Star Trek! A special thanks to my friend Greg for the awesome Borg makeup!

Yield: makes one 6" square cake

Things you'll need

Ingredients
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 2 lemon cake mix
  • 6 oz. lime Jello mix
  • 2 2/3 cups vegetable oil
  • Vanilla frosting
  • Food coloring: black, green
Equipment
  • 3 6" round cake pans
  • xx LIST ITEM xx

Let's get started!

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F degrees.
  2. Grease the three 6" cake pans.
  3. Prepare the lemon cake mixes according to the box instructions.
  4. Divide the batter evenly among the three pans.
  5. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Reduce the heat to 300F and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let it cool completely.
  6. Level the cakes using a serrated knife.
  7. Tint 3/4 of the vanilla frosting dark gray. Divide the remaining frosting into two and tint light grey and green, set aside.
  8. Place one cake layer on a cake board, pipe a thin layer of the dark grey frosting on top and spread evenly with an offset spatula. Repeat with the second layer.
  9. Flip the last cake layer upside down then frost the entire cake. Smooth with an offset spatula.

Let's get started!

  1. Scoop a small amount of the dark gray, light gray and green frosting into a decorating bag fitted with a #1 tip.
  2. Pipe lines all over the cubes to resemble the Borg Cube ship.
  3. Add more details using the light grey and green frosting.
