Dino Footprint Fossil Cookies

A dino-mite cinnamon sugar cookie recipe decorated to look like dinosaur footprint fossils!

Makes 2 to 3 dozen cookies

Things you'll need

Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • Cinnamon for dusting
Equipment
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Hand mixer
  • Rubber spatula
  • Whisk
  • Rolling pin
  • Plastic wrap
  • Round cookie cutter
  • Baking sheet lined with parchment paper
  • Dinosaur figurines
  • Small paintbrush

Let's get started!

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add an egg, and mix well to combine. Pour in the extracts and mix well.
  5. Add the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  6. Form dough into a disc and wrap in plastic. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  7. Roll out dough to ¼ inch thick and cut out circles.

Time to decorate!

  1. Use the feet of dinosaur figurines to stamp footprints into each cookie.
  2. Use a small paintbrush to fill in each footprint with cinnamon.
  3. Bake cookies for 10 minutes.
