Kingdom Hearts Paopu Pops

 

Learn how to make the Hearts Paopu Chocolate Cake Pops with champagne flavored cake and frosting! 

Yield: makes 12 pops

 

Things you'll need

Ingredients for the cake
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 egg whites
  • 2 cups champagne or sparkling cider
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • Candy melts: yellow and green

Ingredients for champagne or apple cider frosting

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup champagne or apple cider
Equipment
  • 1 bag Lollipop sticks
  • Star shaped cake pop mold
  • Hand mixer
  • Stand mixer
  • #2 Piping tip
  • Piping bags

Let's get started!

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Line and grease a 9"x13"baking pan.
  2. In a medium sized bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg whites and mix until well combined.
  4. Add the vanilla extract then set aside.
  5. In another medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  6. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and champagne to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients until well combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 30 minutes. Let cool completely.
  8. Make the frosting: In a large stand mixer bowl, beat the butter on medium speed for 8 minutes.
  9. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, pinch of salt, champagne or apple cider and beat for another 3 minutes on low speed.
  10. Crumble the cake in a large bowl and mix with the frosting until well combined.

    Time to decorate!

    1. Melt the yellow candy melts and transfer to a decorating bag.
    2. Pipe a thin layer of the candy melts on the star mold. Use a toothpick to cover the sides.
    3. Place it in the freezer for about 10 minutes to chill.
    4. Take about a teaspoon of the cake pop mix and press gently into the star mold.
    5. Place a lollipop stick on top.
    6. Pipe more candy melts and cover the back completely. 
    7. Place it in the freezer for another 10 minutes to set.
    8. Melt the green candy melts and transfer to a decorating bag with a #2 tip.
    9. Pipe a leaf on top of the star.
