  • 2 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 ripe bananas
Decorations
  • Blue & yellow candy melts
  • Black sprinkles
  • Black candy coated chocolates (M&M’s)
  • Round tart candies (smarties)
  • Black icing
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Food pens
Equipment
  • 2 medium mixing bowls
  • Large mixing bowl
  • 9 by 13 cake baking tray lined with parchment paper
  • Baking spray
  • Whisk
  • Masher
  • Electric hand mixer
  • Rubber spatula

Let's get started!

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF
  2. Mash bananas in a medium mixing bowl.
  3. In another medium mixing bowl whisk flour, salt, baking soda, sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  4. Combine mashed bananas with butter, buttermilk, and eggs and then mix with an electric hand mixer.
  5. Combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients, then use an electric mixture to beat until well combined.
  6. Pour the batter in to a prepared pan and then bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Once cooled, cut the cake into 4 to 6 sections. Crumble the sections into a large mixing bowl and then fold in 16 ounces of frosting.
  8. Create minion shapes with your hands (PICTURE at 5:26) and then refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Time to decorate!

  1. Insert a lollipop stick half way into each of the minion bodies. Pull the stick out, dip it into blue candy melt, and then place the dipped end back in the cake pop. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Dip each pop into the blue melt, allowing excess to drip off. Allow to try and then dip each pop into yellow candy melt, this time covering only a little more than half of each pop.
  3. Use tweezers to place sprinkles as hair (PICTURE at 8:08).
  4. Use a #2 tip to pipe a line of blue candy melt along the border between the yellow and blue on each cake pop (PICTURE at 8:23).
  5. Dip the front of a candy coated chocolate in candy melt and stick to the bottom of the pop as a shoe (PICTURE at 8:52). Press for 10 to 15 seconds and then repeat so that each minion has 2 shoes.
  6. Use food markers to draw eyes on tart candies (PICTURE at 9:12) and then use candy melt to stick the eyes onto the pop.
  7. To create goggles, pipe a little bit of black icing around each tart candy, and then pipe the strap around each minion’s head. (PICTURE at 10:02)
  8. Use a #2 tip to pipe a smile on the minions’ faces. (PICTURE at 10:10)
  9. TaDa! Ta bak pops nama prompo boca da ads! (That's Minionese for "The cake pops are now ready to eat!")
