Vegan Donut Bronut Holes

Learn how to make 'Food Battle: The Game' Bronut Donut Holes with my guest's Anthony and Ian of Smosh!

Yield: makes about 2 dozen

Things you'll need

Ingredients for the donut holes
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
  • 1/4 cup vegan butter
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seed
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp water

Ingredients for the icing
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 tbsp soy milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment
  • Saucepan
  • Cake pop maker
  • Piping bag
  • Two #2 piping tips

Let's get started!

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the apple cider vinegar and soy milk. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the baking powder, salt, cinnamon, flour.
  3. In a small bowl, add the ground flax seed in the water and let it set until it thickens. About 5 minutes.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and mix again.
  5. Pour the flax mixture in a saucepan and turn to medium heat. Add the vegan butter and buttermilk substitute.
  6. Remove from the heat and mix together the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until well combined.
  7. Spray the cake pop maker with a non stick spray. Fill the cavities about 1 tablespoon and let it bake for about 4 minutes. Let it cool completely.

Time to decorate!

  1. Make the icing: mix the powdered sugar, soy milk and vanilla. Tint half of the icing in pink and black and leave a small portion untinted.
  2. Dip the donut holes using a fork. Tap lightly to get rid of the access then place it on a baking sheet to let it set.
  3. Place the remaining pink and black icing in a piping bag fitted with a #2 tip.
  4. Pipe two big circles for the eyes using the black icing. Pipe a "U" shape for the mouth.
  5. Add two small white dots inside the large black circles for the pupils.
  6. Attach more sprinkles on top of the head using more pink icing.
